Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - The Lowell Devils saw the Worcester Sharks score four unanswered goals to pull away for a 5-2 win on Saturday at the Tsongas Arena. Alex Stalock made 40 saves for his league-leading 19th win and the Sharks' fifth straight victory.
The Sharks had the jump from the opening faceoff and were rewarded for their effort just 34 seconds into the first. After Jeff Frazee had denied chances by Dan DaSilva and John McCarthy, Andrew Desjardins picked up a rebound behind the net and jammed it inside the near post.
Lowell would even the score at 12:17 when Tim Sestito had the puck bounce to him at the far circle and fed a low pass across the crease that Alexander Vasyunov backhanded in for his 10th of the season.
Worcester pulled ahead by two in the first six minutes of the second with goals notched 1:17 apart. Logan Couture's long wrist shot from the point found its way past a screened Frazee before Dwight Helminen trailed late into the Lowell zone to one-time a Corey Quirk feed to the right side of the net.
Brandon Mashinter continued the scoring at 3:03 of the final period with a wrist shot from the near boards that snuck through the five-hole of Frazee. Worcester added a power play goal three minutes later on Benn Ferriero's backhander from in front.
The Devils completed the scoring when Patrick Davis beat Stalock with a stuff shot with 36.8 seconds left in the contest. Frazee had his three-game winning streak snapped while stopping 39 of 44 shots. Mike McKenna played the final 9:23 of the game in relief.
The Lowell Devils finish their weekend homestand on Sunday, January 3 at 4:00PM against the Springfield Falcons. Tune into the live Devils action at WWZN-1510AM or go online to AHLlive.com. For tickets to Lowell Devils home games, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or visit lowelldevilshockey.com.
