Falcons Host The Bruins Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins meet for the fifth time this season and this will be the third time these two divisional rivals meet at the MassMutual Center in the last two weeks. The Falcons are 0-2-2-0 against the Bruins, including back-to-back overtime losses at The Nest, both by the score of 3-2. Colin McDonald leads the Falcons in scoring against the Bruins this year with one goal and two assists in four games, while Ryan O'Marra leads Springfield in goals against Providence this year with two goals.

Providence's Andy Wozniewski leads the Bruins in scoring against the Falcons this campaign with three goals and three assists for six points in three contests. Trent Whitfield is tied with Wozniewski for the club lead in scoring against Springfield with one goal and five assists in three games. Jeff LoVecchio also has three goals against the Falcons this year in four games. Goaltender Dany Sabourin is a perfect 3-0 with a 1.97 goals against average and.921 save percentage against his former team.

FALCONS PLAYER NOTES

* Forward Rob Hisey has two goals and one assist in his first two games with the Falcons after signing a PTO contract on December 28. Hisey has a goal in each game he has played and was the game's second star on December 29 against Providence with one goal and one assist. * Ryan O'Marra scored a pair of goals on December 30 at Hartford earning the game's third star. * Colton Fretter has points in three straight games, one goal and two assists.

BRUINS PLAYER NOTES

* Trent Whitfield has points in three of his last four games collecting two goals and two assists in that span. * Jordan Knackstedt led Providence with one goal and two assists in their 4-2 win over Bridgeport last night. * Yannick Riendeau made his pro debut on December 29 at Springfield collecting one assist.

FALCONS TRANSACTIONS: January 1, 2010 - The Springfield Falcons announced that goaltender Devan Dubnyk has been assigned to the Falcons by their National Hockey League affiliate, the Edmonton Oilers. The Falcons also announced that goaltender Aaron Sorochan has been assigned to Springfield's ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder.

Dubnyk has played in 19 games with the Falcons this year posting a record of 9-9-1 with a 3.00 goals against average and a.917 save percentage. He has also appeared in two games with the Oilers this year making his NHL debut on November 28 at Vancouver.

Sorochan has played in 10 games with the Falcons this year posting a record of 1-5-0 with a 3.99 goals against average and.871 save percentage. The Edmonton, Alberta native earned his first AHL win on October 25 at Lowell.

December 31, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons announced they have recalled forward Kelly Czuy from their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. Czuy has played in 16 games for the Thunder this season collecting two goals and four assists for six points and 14 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta split last season between the Falcons and the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers. In three career games with Springfield, Czuy has one assist.

BRUINS GAME RECAP: Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-2 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Rob Kwiet, Drew Larman, Trent Whitfield and Jordan Knackstedt.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 2:51 mark of the opening period. Knackstedt held the puck in the corner and kicked it to Jamie Arniel behind the net. He skated the puck up the boards before passing it to Kwiet who was cutting towards the net. Kwiet scored his first goal of the season from the left face off circle. The Sound Tigers tied the game at one at the 4:38 mark. Jesse Joensuu tallied his sixth goal of the season, while Brett Westgarth and Greg Mauldin recorded the assists. Bridgeport took its first lead of the game at the 9:56 mark. Sean Bentivoglio netted his 12th goal of the season, while Mark Flood and Dustin Kohn picked up the assists. The Sound Tigers led 2-1 going into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, the P-Bruins tied the game at two at the 11:47 mark of the third period. Knacksted held the puck behind the net and worked it up the boards for Craig Weller. He shot the puck towards the net and Larman tipped it in for his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 16:08 mark. Whitfield stole the puck behind the Sound Tigers net and scored on a wrap around, his eighth goal of the season. Providence finished off the scoring at the 19:59, with an unassisted empty net goal from Knackstedt, his second of the season. Providence went on to the 4-2 victory.

Dany Sabourin stopped 17 of 19 shots for the P-Bruins, while Rick DiPietro made 25 saves for the Sound Tigers. The P-Bruins were 0-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

BRUINS TRANSACTIONS: January 1, 2010 - The Providence Bruins announced that defenseman Rob Kwiet has been recalled from the ECHL's Reading Royals.

Kwiet, 21, was most recently assigned to Reading on December 26 and he appeared in four games for the Royals, going scoreless. On the year, the rookie defenseman has dressed in 11 ECHL games, tallying three assists. For Providence, Kwiet has suited up for 16 contests with 10 penalty minutes and a minus-three rating.

Last season, Kwiet won a Memorial Cup championship with the Windsor Spitfires, recording personal-highs with 12 goals, 55 assists and 67 points in 66 regular season games before adding 15 points (5g, 10a) in 20 games during the club's lengthy playoff run. He finished sixth overall among OHL blue-liners in scoring during the regular season. In four junior seasons between Windsor, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and Toronto St. Michael's Majors, Kwiet totaled 145 points (29g, 116a) and 310 PIM in 250 regular season games. The defenseman has previously enjoyed pro experience with the International Hockey League's Muskegon Fury in 2007-08, going scoreless in seven regular season games and four playoff contests.
