Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed center Tom Cavanagh to a one-year American Hockey League contract, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.

Cavanagh, 27, is returning to hockey following a brief hiatus from the sport. The 6-foot, 200-pound center from Warwick, Rhode Island played four seasons (2005-09) in the San Jose Sharks organization including 18 games with the NHL club where he collected three points (1-23) and four penalty minutes. Cavanagh set a record for San Jose by recording his first point, an assist, only 36 seconds into this NHL debut which is the fourth-fastest point in an NHL debut since the 1989-90 season.

Selected by the Sharks in the sixth-round (182nd overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Cavanagh has appeared in 264 AHL games with the Worcester Sharks and Cleveland Barons. He has registered 56 goals and 103 assists for 159 points and 184 penalty minutes in the AHL during the regular season. A 2005 graduate of Harvard University, Cavanagh collected 117 points (48-69117) and 83 penalty minutes in 138 games with the Crimson.

The Monarchs start off 2010 with a home game against the Portland Pirates on Saturday, January 2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:00 p.m. Catch all of the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGAM 900/1250 AM and at www.manchestermonarchs.com.
