
Pirates Outlast Monarchs in a Shootout

Manchester, NH - Marc-Andre Gragnani scored in the 10th round of the shootout to lift the Portland Pirates to a 4-3 win over the Manchester Monarchs in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 6,414 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Jhonas Enroth stopped 23 of 26 in regulation and overtime but saved his best for the shootout, turning aside nine of the 10 shooters he faced.
Nathan Gerbe paced the Pirates with two goals while Mark Mancari scored once, collected two assists and scored the only other Portland shootout goal. Tyler Ennis registered three assists as the Pirates posted their first shootout win of the season and moved to 17-13-4-2 on the season.
Corey Elkins, Marc-Andre Cliche and Kevin Westgarth scored for Manchester, who dropped the third straight and are now 23-11-1-3 on the year. Patrick Mullen was the only one of Manchester's 10 shooters to beat Enroth.
Gerbe, reassigned by the Buffalo Sabres to Portland yesterday, got the offense rolling early for the Pirates scoring twice in the opening eight minutes to give Portland a 2-0 advantage. Manchester answered before the end of the period to half the lead as Gauthier struck on the power play with just over five minutes left in the opening stanza.
Mancari restored Portland's two-goal lead in the opening minute of the second but Manchester would get back to within one as Cliche struck on the power play with under five minutes remaining in the middle period.
Westgarth struck midway through the third to set up overtime and a shootout.
The Pirates led 2-1 after one and 3-2 heading into the third.
Manchester out shot the Pirates 26-25 in the game.

The Pirates continue a five-game road trip tomorrow (Sunday) in Providence when they meet the Bruins at 4:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 3:45 p.m.
