Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters 3-2 on Saturday night in front of 2,917 fans at Copps Coliseum. Despite outshooting Lake Erie 33-17 in the game, the âDogs could not get the puck past Monsters goaltender Weiman until the final minutes of the game.
Lake Erie scored the game's opening goal at 7:02 of the first period. After a intercepting a failed clearing attempt by a âDogs defenceman, Marty Sertich sent the puck to Justin Mercier, who was in the slot. Mercier proceeded to rifle a shot past starting Hamilton netminder Cedrick Desjardins to make it 1-0 Lake Erie.
Following a scoreless second period, Lake Erie took a 2-0 lead at 5:40 of the final frame. Matthew Ford received the puck from Patrick Bordeleau before taking a wrist shot that beat Desjardins over the blocker.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to one at 17:49 of the third period. Beginning behind the âDogs net, P.K. Subban carried the puck end-to-end before skating behind the Lake Erie net and dishing the puck to J.T. Wyman. Wyman proceeded to fire a shot between the legs of Lake Erie starting goaltender Tyler Weiman.
Mercier added his second goal of the game at 19:14 of the third stanza. Hamilton pulled its goalie to try and tie the game but Mercier intercepted the puck from a Bulldogs player in the neutral zone before sending a shot into the open net to give the Monsters a 3-1 lead.
Ben Maxwell added a goal for the âDogs at 19:39 of the third period when he redirected a Mathieu Carle shot from the point but it was too late as Hamilton could not tie the game.
The Bulldogs will host the Milwaukee Admirals tomorrow for a 4:00 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum.
