ROSEMONT, Illinois - The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, fell victim to a two-goal second period by the Chicago Wolves today at the Allstate Arena and fell 3-1 in an 11:00 a.m. school day game matchup. Joel Hanley net the lone Texas goal in the opening period.

The Stars would strike first in the game Michael Mersch and Denis Gurianov halted the Chicago breakout on the left wing. After a quick transition, the Stars dropped it back for Hanley who stepped across the offensive line. The blue liner who signed a two year extension with the Dallas Stars on Monday, scored his third goal of the season on a shot that flew into the top left corner at 4:44.

Texas battled for a second goal in the game but Max Legace shut down the net despite 39 shots from the Stars. The netminder was helped by a successful defensive front by the Wolves through the remainder of the contest.

After holding the 1-0 lead through the first intermission, the Wolves would counter with a strange second period goal. Nic Hague walked around the back of the net before launching a shot from the left circle. Stars goaltender Philippe Desrosiers made the initial save but the rebound came off his pads behind the net. Curtis McKenzie took the chance and threw it off the Texas goaltender's pads toward the goal line. At first glance, the referee waived off the goal with Ben Gleason pulling the puck away from the net. Upon further review the Wolves were credited with the goal to tie the game.

Five minutes later, Chicago tacked on a shorthanded goal to take the lead. Gage Quinney took the puck away at the left circle and walked off the wall to send his 15th of the season into the net. Late in the third period, Daniel Carr would score his league leading 28th of the season to ice the game on an empty net.

The Wolves chances were limited, but they were able to score all three goals on 14 shots between the second and third periods. Despite 39 shots on goal, the Stars were unable to beat Legace, who took the number one star with 38 stops. Neither team had much to work with on the power play as both teams ended the game 0-for-1 on the power play.
