T-Birds Visit Hartford & Bridgeport in Important Road Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds (22-22-6-4) will look to build off last Sunday's victory in Providence when they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack (21-25-5-3) on Friday night for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop at the XL Center.

On Saturday, the Thunderbirds road swing through the Atlantic Division continues with a showdown against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (30-18-5-2) at the Webster Bank Arena at 7:00 p.m.

The Thunderbirds snapped a six-game slide on Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 win over the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. In dispatching of their division foes, the Springfield power play came back to life, scoring three times on six man advantage chances. The Thunderbirds man-up unit remains the top scoring power play in the AHL with 67 power play goals and a league-best 25.4% success rate.

Springfield turned that power play hat trick against the AHL's top penalty kill in Providence. Chris Wideman tallied the first of two 5-on-3 goals for Springfield in the final period in the midst of a two-goal, three-point performance. Anthony Greco fired home a shorthanded goal in the first period, and Harry Zolnierczyk also contributed a power play strike in the victory for the visitors.

On the back end, Chris Driedger was tremendous in the Springfield goal crease, turning aside 26 of 27 shots to pick up his seventh win of the campaign. The 24-year-old has season totals of a 2.87 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

On Friday, the Thunderbirds will look for their fifth win in seven tries against the Wolf Pack this season. Springfield has won each of the last three meetings between the clubs, outscoring Harford by a total of 15-6 in that time. Paul Thompson recorded the first four-goal game in Thunderbirds team history on Jan. 23 in the T-Birds' last visit to the XL Center. Springfield came away the 7-4 winners that evening.

Following the two-game weekend, the Thunderbirds return to the MassMutual Center on Friday, March 1 for Boomer Bobblehead night presented by Stop & Shop, as the T-Birds and Wolf Pack square off once again for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. On Saturday, March 2, New England Patriots Super Bowl champion Trey Flowers will be on hand for a meet-and-greet beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the MassMutual Center concourse.
