Sounds Drop Second Straight to Omaha

NASHVILLE - The Omaha Storm Chasers waited out a thunderstorm and rain delay and dispatched the Nashville Sounds, 4-2, on Wednesday night at First Tennessee Park.
Both teams waited out a one-hour, 13-minute rain delay prior to first pitch. After the delay, Omaha didn't waste any time with a pair of runs in the opening frame. Frank Schwindel knocked in the first run of the game with a run-scoring single and Elier Hernandez's RBI fielder's choice gave the Storm Chasers a 2-0 lead.
Nashville came right back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the opening inning. Carlos Tocci walked and took second base on a wild pitch before Andy Ibanez drove him in with a run-scoring single up the middle.
Ibanez was at it again in the third when he drilled a solo homer onto the berm in left-center. The blast was Ibanez's third of the season and evened the game at 2-2.
It remained a 2-2 game until the top of the fifth inning when an error cost the Sounds two runs. With one out and the bases loaded, Schwindel bounced a tapper back to Sounds' pitcher Tim Dillard. He threw home for the second out of the inning but catcher Jett Bandy's throw to first to complete the inning-ending double play was off target. Two runs came around to score to give Omaha a 4-2 lead.
As Omaha took the lead, Nashville's offense went missing. Storm Chasers pitching retired 14 straight batters from the third to the eighth before Tocci's single with one out in the eighth. The Sounds managed only five hits in the game.
Dillard was charged with a tough loss in another spot start. He allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings. Relievers Kyle Bird, Jeffrey Springs and David Carpenter combined to toss four scoreless innings.
The series finale between the two teams is scheduled for Thursday night at First Tennessee Park. The Sounds have not announced a starter to go against right-hander Heath Fillmyer (0-1, 13.50) for the Storm Chasers. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
Post-Game Notes
With tonight's 4-2 loss, the Sounds dropped to 8-18 on the season.
The Sounds have now hit at least one home run in eight consecutive games. Since April 24, they have homered in every game and have a total of 13 in that timeframe.
Eli White's career-best 11-game hitting streak came to an end with his 0-for-4 performance.
Tim Dillard struck out two batters and now has 346 in his Nashville Sounds career. He is six shy of matching Jamie Werly's all-time franchise mark of 352.
