Snappers Fall to LumberKings to Force Rubber Match
April 23, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CLINTON, IA - The Snappers were up bright and early for their first noon game of the season, Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, a late inning comeback by the Clinton LumberKings would cost the Snappers a win as they drop the second game of this three game series 5-4.
Shortstop Marcos Brito lead the game off by extending his hitting streak to 6 games, but the first half inning wouldn't end there. First Basemen Payton Squier and Right Fielder Anthony Churlin would reach base by a single and walk respectively before Second Basemen Nick Ward would take opposing starter, Humberto Mejia, deep to give the Snappers a nice 4-0 cushion.
The home run was Ward's first homer as a Beloit Snapper and the first grand slam from any Snapper in the 2019 season.
Beloit would send Aiden McIntyre to the hill, who pitched excellent earning a no decision.
McIntyre was able to work 4 innings by only throwing 73 pitches, striking out 6 batters, and only walking 1.
Right-handed pitcher Bryce Conley came in to pitch in the 5th for the Snappers. Conley worked 4 innings allowing 4 runs total on 3 hits, 1 of which was a 2-run home run in the 6th. He threw 74 pitches and walked 3 batters while also striking out 3.
Unfortunately, the Snappers were unable to get over the hump, as they had runners in scoring position in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings, but were unable to capitalize, ultimately, falling by a final score of 5-4.
The Snappers will be back in action tomorrow morning looking for the series win against the LumberKings. First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM CT and RHP Daniel Martinez (1-1) is slated to get the start for Beloit in Clinton, IA
