Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CLINTON, IA - It was a rainy, wet night in Clinton, Iowa, but the Snappers mounted a late- inning comeback to defeat the Clinton LumberKings by a final score of 5-4. The Snappers used a 4-run eighth inning to take their first lead of the game and the first game of the series in Clinton.
Clinton would get the scoring started in the ballgame after getting a solo shot from Sean Reynolds in the second inning. Just one inning later, Clinton would tack on one more run to take the early 2-0 lead.
Adam Reuss got the start tonight for Beloit and pitched well, while also surviving a 47-minute rain delay in the bottom of the second inning. Reuss ended the night after 4 strong innings of work, surrendering just 2 runs, while striking out 3 to get a no decision.
Fast-forwarding to the fourth, the Snappers would get on the scoreboard for the first time and cut the LumberKings lead in half. Beloit's Ryan Gridley would reach on a fielding error by Clinton and get all the way to second base with no outs. John Jones would then do his job in the cleanup spot knocking in Gridley with an RBI single and cutting the deficit to just one after 4 complete.
Clinton would get two more runs in the game, scoring one in the sixth and seventh to take the 4-1 advantage. However, that did not deter the Snappers bats, as Beloit erupted in the eighth inning with four runs to take their first lead of the game.
In the eighth, the Snappers struck up some more of their excellent two-out hitting, after Cobie Vance reached on a HBP with one-out and Payton Squier singled to put runners on first and second for Jones.
Moments later, Jones would earn a walk to load the bases for left-handed hitting, Logan Farrar, still with two-outs. Farrar would single up the middle on a 3-2 count that would plate 2 runs and Farrar smartly moved up to second on a throwing error from Clinton.
Now with runners on second and third with two outs, Anthony Churlin would hit a ball to Clinton's second basemen, Christopher Torres, who would misplay the ball allowing both Jones and Farrar to come home to score and give the Snappers the 5-4 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth.
Charlie Cerny would then slam the door shut on the LumberKings, throwing two fantastic innings out of the bullpen to earn his first save on the year. Cerny would also strike out two and only surrender one hit in his two innings of work.
Jaimito Lebron will get credit with the win tonight after throwing a good inning in the seventh. The win is Lebron's first this season, as he struck out 2 and only gave up one run.
Michael Danielak was the middle man for Beloit tonight pitching two great innings out of the bullpen after Reuss. Danielak gave up 1 unearned run, struck out 2, and only gave up 2 hits in a solid 2 innings of work.
The Snappers will be back at it tomorrow looking to capture their third straight win in a row and clinch the series win against Clinton. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM CT and RHP Bryce Conley is slated to get the start for Beloit.
