Snappers fall in both games of doubleheader

Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - The Snappers hosted their first doubleheader of the season Friday night, but unfortunately, Beloit landed themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard in both games tonight. The Snappers fell 7-0 in Game 1 and 9-3 in Game two to drop to an overall record of 8-12 on the season.
The weather was a perfect, sunny 62 degrees for the first pitch of game 1, but unfortunately, the Snappers bats struggled to get hot. After Cobie Vance drew a walk in the first, the Snappers would only get 3 more runners on base in a shortened 7- inning game. Peoria Chiefs' starting pitcher, Diego Cordero , would work 6 and 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball until surrendering the only Beloit hit of the game to Snappers second baseman Ryan Gridley in the bottom of the 7th .
Home runs proved costly for the Snappers, as all 7 runs came on 3 separate home runs. Both Brady Whalen and Nolan Gorman had 3-run blasts, and Whalen put the finishing touches on the first contest with a solo blast in the fifth inning to give Peoria the 7-0 advantage and win.
The brisk break between games was just what the Snappers offense needed, as they scored 3 innings quickly in the first inning of the second game of the doubleheader. Cobie Vance started the inning off by reaching base on an infield error which allowed red-hot Payton Squier to drive him in with an RBI double. After a Logan Farrar walk, and back-to-back RBI singles by Nick Osborne and Ryan Gridley put the Snappers up to a quick 3-1 lead.
Unfortunately, that was not enough, as Peoria would hang 6 spot in the 6th inning that would prove to be the deciding factor in the game. Peoria would go on to score 3 more runs in the contest earning the sweep this evening.
Payton Squier, who unfortunately lost his 5 game hitting streak in game one, looked to start a new streak in game 2 by going 1-1 with a walk, HBP, RBI, and run scored.
The Snappers look to play game 3 of 4 in their series tomorrow at 4:00 PM in Beloit at Pohlman Field. Sunday will be the first Bark in the Park event for the Beloit Snappers with gates to open at 1 P.M.
