Slough Sharks Fall in Shootout to Raiders

Lake Diefenbaker, Sask. - The Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks fell in a shootout on Friday night to the Prince Albert Raiders in what was an exciting affair at the InnovationPlex.
The Slough Sharks opened the scoring in the game just over a minute in as a Connor Hvidston sharp angle shot found its way past Chase Coward. That's how it stood until early in the second as the Raiders continued to pepper the Slough Sharks.
Eric Johnston and Terrell Goldsmith scored in the second to give Prince Albert their first lead of the hockey game through two periods.
Slough Sharks interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said his team was outplayed heavily in the first and second, but they adjusted.
"Happy with how we adjusted throughout the game," McEwen said. "Just kind of found a way to tie it up, take the lead, and get a point for sure."
The Broncos came out firing on a powerplay to start the third period and Brady Birnie was able to burry one to tie the hockey game for the Slough Sharks. That was followed by Tyson Laventure's 11th of the season to give the Slough Sharks a 3-2 lead.
Both teams kept getting a few chances but the Raiders were able to capitalize with 25 seconds to play in the third as Sloan Stanick knocked one home to force overtime.
The Broncos had a few great chances in the overtime but couldn't get one to go as things led to a shootout. Sloan Stanick scored the loan shootout goal for the Raiders, while Tyson Laventure, Connor Hvidston, and Josh Filmon missed for the Slough Sharks.
The Broncos gave up 44 shots in the hockey game, but McEwen said he was mostly happy with the quality of shots and chances they gave up.
"Happy for the most part," he said. "Happy with how we were able to adjust and defend better as the game went on."
The Slough Sharks will revert to the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday as they take on the Regina Pats in Regina.
