Wild Ones
On the road again! The Winterhawks are off to Wenatchee for the second time this season to take on the U.S. Division's new guys. Their lone meeting thus far came in the season opener on Sept. 22, a back-and-forth tilt won by Wenatchee 6-5.
Of course, both teams look vastly different now with NHL-drafted players re-inserted into lineups and two months of games under their belt. Top-10 NHL picks Matthew Savoie and Conor Geekie headline the Wild's forward corps, while Portland's cluster of NHL prospects on the blue line in Luca Cagnoni, Carter Sotheran and Marek Alscher look forward to meeting the challenge in their first trip to Wenatchee.
Not to mention, tonight's tilt is just the beginning - these two top-ranked clubs will make the trek down south for a Saturday night rematch at the VMC. More on that below...
On The Grind
Last week was a busy one, and the road stays crowded ahead. A three-in-three awaits in each of the next two weekends, followed by three games in four nights heading into the holiday break. This weekend's slate brings a playoff flavor with back-to-back games against high-scoring Wenatchee before a Sunday night clash with the first-place Prince George Cougars.
It's a hectic portion of the schedule, but one full of opportunities for the Hawks to take down tough competition and cement themselves among the WHL's elite this season.
November To Remember
What a month for a handful of Hawks! Let's start with the captain - Gabe Klassen led all WHL skaters with 25 points in November, in just 11 games. The Prince Albert, Sask. native bagged seven goals and 18 helpers while logging points in all but three games last month. His linemates James Stefan and Josh Davies also find themselves among the top scorers for November, with 15 and 18 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, on the blue line, Luca Cagnoni was the highest-scoring defenseman in the WHL last month with 17 points in 11 outings. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks, Cagnoni continues to excel in all areas and has established himself as one of the very best blueliners in the league.
