Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - Despite a quick start, the Medicine Hat Tigers would drop a 7-3 decision to the Calgary Hitmen Friday night at Co-op Place

The first period was busy for the Tigers in the first 1:35 of the first as an early power play just eight seconds into the game would allow Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) to bank in his 12th of the season to open the scoring at 1-0. Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) would check off with assists on the goal. Then just 25 seconds later, Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would snipe his 13th of the season beating Hitmen goaltender Ethan Buenaventura to make it 2-0. Captain Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) & Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) would draw assists.

Calgary would then make their move to get on the board as Sean Tschigerl would beat Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) at 2:58 to cut the lead to 2-1. The Hitmen would keep coming as Carter Yakemchuk would beat May on an individual effort to tie things at 2-2. Calgary would then take their first lead on a Sean Tschigerl penalty shot at 14:25 beating May to give the Hitmen a lead heading to the 2nd.

Medicine Hat would have another quick start in the 2nd at 1:06 as Basha would get his second of the night from Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) & MacKenzie to make it 3-3.

Calgary would regain the lead on another breakaway as Oliver Tulk would fire home his 15th of the season at 8:40.

Into the third, the Tigers would push to try and equalize but three unanswered goals in third would see the Hitmen come away with the 7-3 final.

The Tigers will look to rebound on Saturday night for the Medicine Hat News Teddy Bear Toss against the Prince Albert Raiders. Fans are encouraged to bring a brand new stuffed animal or toques and mitts to donate when the Tigers score their first goal of the game.
