December 1, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince George Cougars News Release
Kennewick, WA- The Prince George Cougars roared back to victory with a commanding 4-1 win against the Tri-City Americans at the Toyota Center on Friday. The game showcased stellar performances, with Zac Funk leading the charge with a natural hat-trick and an assist, while goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen secured his ninth win of the season with an impressive 30 saves.
The Tri-City Americans initiated the scoring at 6:45, as sharpshooter Jordan Gavin found the mark against Joshua Ravensbergen, establishing a 1-0 lead. Despite outshooting the Americans, the Cougars found themselves trailing after the opening period.
Undeterred, the Cougars gained momentum in the second period, gradually taking control of the game. Displaying resilience, Zac Funk capitalized on a power play in the final minutes, receiving a precision pass from Riley Heidt and executing a top-shelf, through-the-leg shot to even the score at 1-1 after two periods. The Cougars dominated the shot count in the second, outshooting the Americans 12-6.
In a riveting final period, the Cougars capitalized on a power play at 16:45, with Zac Funk securing his second goal of the game. Unfortunately, the Cats suffered a setback as Ondrej Becher exited the game due to a kneeing incident by an American player. Becher is expected to return to the Cougars' lineup tomorrow night in Spokane.
The Cougars sealed the victory with two empty-net goals in the closing minutes, with Zac Funk completing his hat-trick at 18:19 and Riley Heidt netting his 14th of the season at 19:07.
With this triumph, the Prince George Cougars bolstered their record to an impressive 19-7-0-0 for the season, solidifying their position at the top of the Western Conference.
