Iowa Chops News Release
HOUSTON, TX - The Iowa Stars and Houston Aeros met for the second time in as many days Friday night in Houston. Friday's game was the fourth meeting of the season, and the fourth in Houston between these two teams. Iowa returns home to Wells Fargo Arena 3-2 winners over the AHL's second-place team.
For the 19th time this season, the Iowa Stars posted the maiden-marker in the contest. Forward Krys Barch gave the Stars a 1-0 lead just 4:23 into the contest. For Barch, it was his first goal and point in six games with Iowa this season. Winger Junior Lessard, the reigning AHL Player of the Week, continued his recent offensive tear, scoring his team-leading 13th goal of the season off a nice feed from Mathias Tjarnqvist. Lessard's goal came with :15 seconds remaining in the first period.
The two team skated a scoreless second period. Despite, being man-down four times in the second, Iowa's defense was the story of the period, holding Houston to just four shots in the period, including none on the power-play. Iowa held Houston to just four shots in six total man-down situations.
Goaltender Dan Ellis had his bid for his second consecutive full-game shutout squashed at 9:09 of the third period when the AHL's leading scorer Kirby Law recorded his league-leading 25th goal of the season. Ellis finished with 24 saves.
Defenseman Patrick Traverse helped sealed the victory with his third goal of the year at 12:41 of the third period.
Loui Eriksson had his four-game point-streak snapped.
