Cleveland Barons News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - The offensive line of Scottie Upshall, Scott Nichol and Darren Haydar combined for nine points leading the Milwaukee Admirals to a 6-4 win over the Barons on Friday night. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Special teams played a major role in the Admirals' 2-1 lead after the first period of play. With a two-man advantage Darren Haydar scored his 15th goal of the season for the game's first tally and a 1-0 lead for Milwaukee. Scott Nichol then extended the Admirals' lead to 2-0 with a short-handed tally with just under four minutes remaining. A late goal by the Barons cut the lead in half as Josh Prudden scored his 8th goal of the year with seven seconds to go in the period. Riley Armstrong and Matt Carkner assisted on the goal for Cleveland. Dimitri Patzold made his 13th appearance of the year with 14-saves in the opening frame. Pekka Rinner, a PlanetUSA AHL All-Star selection was in goal for Milwaukee making 8-saves.
Scott Nichol added his second goal of the night for the second period's only score and a Milwaukee 3-1 lead. The Barons out-shot Milwaukee 16-10 during the middle frame but failed to convert on five power play chances against a stingy Rinne and the Admirals.
The teams combined for six goals including an empty netter by the Admirals' Scottie Upshall to complete a 6-4 Milwaukee win. Matt Carkner, Lukas Kaspar and Shane Joseph scored the goals for Cleveland, who suffered back-to-back defeats after winning three consecutive. The Admirals improved their home record to a dominating 14-3-0-0 with goals by Brandon Segal and Darren Haydar before Upshall's final tally. Patzold finished the night for Cleveland with 36-saves while Rinne earned the win for Milwaukee with 31-saves.
The Barons longest road stretch of the season continues tomorrow night at Iowa. Game time is at 8pm and can be heard and seen live through the Barons official web site, www.clevelandbarons.net. Sunday night the Chicago Wolves host the Barons again before Cleveland returns to Milwaukee for a Tuesday night tilt at the Bradley Center.
