Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - After a tough couple of games last weekend, the Binghamton Senators kicked off their four-game home stand with a bang on Friday night with a 9-4 win against the visiting Springfield Falcons. The offense found its groove mid-way through the first period and never looked back as they were able to explode for nine goals, tying a franchise mark originally set on February 15, 2003 in a game versus the St. John's Maple Leafs in Ottawa, Ontario.

Springfield actually took the first lead of the game when Chris Dingman tallied his third goal of the season at the 7:07 mark of the opening frame. The power-play goal was assisted by Todd Rohloff and David Spina.

Binghamton would then go on to score the next four goals of the game and put themselves up 4-1 in the first period. The Sens got goals from Cory Pecker, Grant Potulny, Charlie Stephens and Lance Ward's first goal in 46 AHL contests chased Springfield goaltender Gerald Colemen into the dressing room after just 17 minutes and 16 seconds of action.

Before the first period would end, the Falcons were able to climb back into the game with a goal by Marek Kvapil at the 18:40 mark of the first period.

The two squads would trade their next two goals as Denis Hamel and defenseman Brennan Evans each recorded scores for the Sens and the Falcons countered with goals by Zbynek Hrdel and Andre Deveaux. After two period, the teams headed into their respective locker rooms with Binghamton leading 6-4.

Hamel then made sure that the Falcons were put well out of the game as he picked up back-to-back goals to complete the hat trick. Hamel also recorded a hat trick the last time Binghamton hosted the Falcons, a 7-1 win on Dec. 31, 2004.

Joe Cullen put the icing on the cake with his fourth goal of the year at the 14:06 mark of the third stanza. The goal gave the Sens a 9-4 win and the much needed two points in the standings.

Kelly Guard was in goal for the B-Sens and turned away 25 of 29 shots for the win. Coleman started the game for Springfield, but allowed four goals on 11 shots before he was relieved by Brian Eklund. Eklund went on to turn away 20 of 25 shots in 42 minutes and 44 seconds of playing time.

Binghamton closed out the night three for four on the power play while the Falcons mustered up two goals on nine power-play opportunities.

The Sens return to action on Saturday night as they welcome division foe Bridgeport to the Arena. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. face off. Ticket information is available by calling 607-722-SENS.
