SeaWolves Can't Stop Curve Bats

The SeaWolves were swept in doubleheader action on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park by scores of 11-3 and 4-1.

Game One

The Curve wasted no time in the opening frame of as Adam Frazier led off with a single and reached second on a Max Moroff fielder's choice. Josh Bell then cleared the bases with a three-run home run to left-center as Altoona quickly built a 3-0 lead.

The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the first as Wynton Bernard reached on an error and advanced to third on an Alberto Gonzalez single. Jason Krizan then hit into a double play, but Bernard scored from third and cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Wolves continued to close the gap as Bernard led off the third inning with a base hit. Bernard then stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Krizan then sent a single into center, which scored Bernard as Erie pulled within one.

The Curve responded in the fourth as Mel Rojas, Jr. led the inning off with a bunt single and moved to third on an Andy Vasquez double. Eric Wood drove Rojas, Jr. home, which also advanced Vasquez to third. Altoona then took advantage of Erie errors, plating two more runs for a 7-2 lead.

The Curve continued to pull away in the fifth as Dan Gamache reached on a walk and was driven in on a Rojas Jr. double. Rojas then scored on an RBI base hit from Jacob Stallings, but Altoona was not done. Vasquez cleared the bases with a two-RBI double and eventually scored on a Frazier single. Altoona put the game out of reach and took a commanding 11-2 lead.

Dean Green homered in the bottom of the sixth, which cut the lead to 11-3, but Erie could not pull any closer.

Erie starter Austin Kubitza (5-7) took the loss on the bump. He allowed 10 runs, seven earned, on nine hits, three walks and four strikeouts in the defeat.

GAME TWO

Altoona once again jumped ahead in the first inning against Erie starter Montreal Robertson. Adam Frazier doubled and scored on a Jose Osuna single for a 1-0 lead.

Altoona added onto the lead in the second as Stetson Allie reached with a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a groundout and reached third on an error. Edward Salcedo then sent a ground ball that brought home Frazier and increased the lead to 2-0.

The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the second as Dean Green picked up a leadoff base hit, and advanced to second on a Tony Thomas single. A Miguel Gonzalez single eventually plated Green as the deceit was cut 2-1.

Altoona responded in the fourth as Dan Gamache led off with a single and reached second on a Sebastian Valle base hit. Edward Salcedo then drove in Gamache on an RBI single as the Curve went up 3-1.

Altoona continued to add onto their lead in the fifth as Osuna smacked a two-out double and scored on a Gamache single.

James Robbins took the very first pitch of the seventh and smoked a solo homer over the right field fence. The homer cut the lead to 4-2, but once again Erie fell short.

Robertson (0-1) took the loss going 3.2 innings in his Double-A debut. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
