NEWS AND NOTES

STUCK IN THE MIDDLE:The Sea Dogs and Reading Fightin Phils (Phillies affiliate) play game two of their three-game series on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium...Portland is 2-2 on their six-game roadtrip, and have spot-starter Mike McCarthy on the mound tonight, taking the spot of Heri Quevedo (temporary inactive list)...LHP Jesse Biddle was originally slated to start tonight for Reading, but he was promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and will make his first start in Triple-A against Pawtucket.

CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR: Reading scored in six of eight innings and grabbed the series opener from Portland, 8-6 on Tuesday night...Cam Perkins went 2-for-5 with a 2-run homer, but knocked in the final run on a squeeze play in the eight...Marco Hernandez led off the game with a homer off Jerome Williams (MLB Rehab) and finished 3-for-5...Hoby Milner worked 3+ innings on seven hits and three runs to earn the win for Reading...Mike Augliera (2-12) took the loss, yielding seven hits and six runs over 3.1 IP...Manuel Margot knocked in two runs and Sam Travis went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.
