Senators Earn Fifth Straight Series Win
July 8, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
More outstanding pitching plus a big swing from Matt Skole fueled a third consecutive win for the Harrisburg Senators, 3-1, over the Richmond Flying Squirrels Wednesday at The Diamond in Richmond. The win sealed a fifth consecutive series win for Harrisburg (43-43), and is the fifth win in six games since an eight-game winning streak was snapped. The Senators are at the .500 mark for the first time since they were 8-8 on April 25.
Cutter Dykstra walked to begin the ball game and advanced to second on a Jose Lozada single. However, Lozada was tagged out after being caught between first and second. Brian Goodwin then singled in front of Skole, who unloaded his 12th home run of the season to put Harrisburg up 3-0 in the first. Skole now has 53 RBI on the season.
Richmond responded with a run on two hits in the bottom of the first inning, but Senators' starter Colin Bates settled in from there. He allowed just four hits in the ensuing five scoreless innings. Overall, Bates walked none and struck out five in six one-run innings. Wander Suero relieved Bates by pitching two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three to earn his first hold with Harrisburg. In his second appearance with the Senators, left-hander Nick Lee earned his first save, stranding the game-tying runs in scoring position to throw a scoreless ninth inning.
Dykstra finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored, while Drew Vettleson also recorded a two hit game, going 2-for-4.
The Senators will attempt to finish off the sweep Thursday night at Richmond, beginning at 7:05 p.m. The pregame show will start at 6:50 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
