Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading Fightin Phils outfielder Brian Pointer has been named to the Eastern Division roster for the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Classic, the Portland Sea Dogs and Eastern League jointly announced this afternoon. He takes the place of teammate Cam Perkins on the roster and joins teammates Brock Stassi and Stephen Shackleford at the mid-summer classic.

In 60 games with the Fightins, Pointer is hitting .250 with a team-leading nine home runs and 23 RBIs. He has recorded a .380 OBP this season after being dealt 35 walks this season. His All-Star campaign has been anchored by a month of June where he hit .338 with five home runs, 11 RBIs, and 12 walks in 22 games.

At the end of last month, Pointer was named Eastern League Player of the Week (6/22 to 6/28) after clubbing three home runs, one double, and five RBIs while hitting .444 (8-for-18) over a six-game stretch. His breakout week was capped off by a three-home run performance in Portland on June 27th. The 23-year old became the first Reading to do so since Jim Deschaine hit three on July 3, 2005.

Pointer was drafted by the Phillies in 28th round of the 2010 draft out of Galena High School in Nevada.
