
Saviano receives ECHL Sportsman of the Year Award

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades forward Steve Saviano has been named the ECHL's 2005-06 Sportsman of the Year as voted by league coaches, the league announced today.
The award is presented annually to the player who is judged to have exhibited the best sportsmanship combined with a high standard of playing ability.
In his second professional season, the 24-year-old Saviano has four penalty minutes in 42 games with the Everblades and he is tied for the team lead with five game-winning goals and is second with 45 assists, 70 points, 25 power-play points and a plus-minus rating of +28. In his rookie season last year with Florida, Saviano had 52 points (14g-38a) in 58 regular season games for and he played six games in the AHL with Lowell where he had one assist. He led the Everblades in the postseason with 14 assists and was second on the team with 18 points in 17 games, helping the Everblades reach the Kelly Cup Finals for the second year in a row.
In addition, Saviano was runner-up to Idaho's D'Arcy McConvey in the ECHL Player of the Month voting after posting 22 points (10g, 22a) in 13 games. His effort last week of notching 10 points in three games helped push him to the runner-up spot.
Saviano is currently tied for first on the Everblades with five game-winning goals and is second with 45 assists and 70 points in 42 games. He is third on the team with 23 power-play points (8ppg-15ppa) and is fourth with 25 goals. He is under contract to Lowell of the American Hockey League where he has nine points (6g-3a) in 25 games.
