This will mark the first time in ECHL play that the Gulls and Falcons will meet in the postseason, but the two clashed five times during the clubs' West Coast Hockey League tenures.
The last time San Diego and Fresno met in the playoffs was during the 2002-03 Taylor Cup Finals in which the Gulls won the series in seven games.
San Diego also eliminated Fresno in 1995-96 (also the Taylor Cup Finals), 1998-99 and 1999-00. The only time the Falcons beat the Gulls in a playoff series was in 2001-02.
Overall the two old WCHL rivals have played 24 head-to-head playoff games, with the Gulls winning 14 of those matches.
The Gulls close out their final homestand of the regular season Friday against the Phoenix Roadrunners, with game-time set for 7:35 p.m. It will be Golf Night, and sleeves of special Gulls golf balls will be given to the first 2,000 fans in attendance. San Diego finishes the regular season Saturday in Stockton before opening the playoffs next week.
All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. All remaining games can also be viewed on the Gulls' web site, courtesy of B2 Networks.
