Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

EL PASO, TX - The Lincoln Saltdogs got back at El Paso on Monday night, beating the Diablos 5-0 at Cohen Stadium. The win evens the series between the two teams at one game apiece.

Lincoln starter Jarrett Gardner (9-3) turned in yet another dominant outing, tossing his third complete-game shutout of the season. Gardner blanked El Paso on just five hits and a walk, striking out three and recording 14 groundball outs on a night when the wind was blowing out. The Saltdogs ace went 6-0 in six starts in the month of July, posting an 0.96 ERA over that stretch.

The Saltdogs, meanwhile, got all the runs they needed in the first inning when Matt Maloney cracked a two-run home run, his seventh round-tripper of the season. The top of the first inning was also saw a pair of ejections, as El Paso starter Adam Blackley (6-6) hit two of the first six batters he faced. Blackley hit leadoff hitter Skip Adams, prompting the umpires to warn both benches. Five batters later, Shawn McGill took a pitch off his batting helmet, causing both Blackley and Diablos manager Butch Henry to be ejected. The incident appeared to be El Paso's response to a situation from the night before, when Lincoln reliever Alvaro Orozco hit Roberto Mejia in the face with a pitch.

Lincoln added solo runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings to give Gardner all the run support he needed. Maloney drove in the second-inning tally, with Skip Adams recording the RBI in the fourth and Omar Bramasco scoring on an error in the sixth. On the night, Maloney went 4-for-5 with his homer and three RBI. Bramasco, Dustin Yount, Mario Delgado and Shea McFeely each had two hits for the Saltdogs, who finished with 15 hits on the night.

The Saltdogs and Diablos play game the finale of their three-game series Tuesday night at 8:05pm Central time. Jason Jarvis is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.
