Fort Worth Cats News Release

Brian Fryer's eighth inning RBI double was the difference maker as the Cats edged Shreveport 7-6.

The win was the Cats' third straight and eighth of the year against the Sports.

Fort Worth built an early 3-1 lead in the game, but the Sports rallied to score five times in the fifth inning. Bobby Bratton delivered an RBI single to start the scoring. Later in the inning, Ron Fenwick doubled to left with the bases loaded and Tommy Bryant had a two-run single for a 6-3 lead.

The Cats answered quickly with two runs in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run from John Allen off the scoreboard in left field. Jake Gatureau then started the seventh inning with a leadoff homer off reliever Aaron Cunningham to tie the game 6-6.

In the eighth, Aaron Sisk doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cameron Blair and scored on Friar's double down the right-field line.

Cats' closer Jon Hunton finished off the Sports by striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning for his 17th save of the season.

Kyle Yates, who retired the only batter he faced in the eighth inning, notched his first win in a Cats' uniform to improve to 1-4. Cunningham (2-2) suffered the loss as he permitted two runs on three hits in an inning of work.

Ryan Riddle started for the Cats and permitted six runs, five earned on six hits in five innings pitched in his first start since July 5.

Nelson Teilon was 3-for-5 for the Cats. Brian Fryer also had three hits for Fort Worth, reaching the 100-hit mark for the third consecutive season.

The series continues on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. as Tim Haines (5-3) faces Thad Markray (6-4) in a battle of right-handers.
