Gailen, Gardner American Association Players Of The Week

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the American Association, PA-Sportsticker, has selected Wichita Wingnuts OF Blake Gailen and Lincoln Saltdogs RHP Jarrett Gardner as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.

Gailen batted .545 with one home run and eight RBI in five games this past week for Wichita. He collected 12 hits, four of which were doubles, scored four runs and slugged .864. On the year, the West Hills, CA resident is hitting .267 with three home runs, 36 RBI, 14 doubles and 56 hits. Gailen is also a pitcher for the Wingnuts where he is 1-0 with a 4.87 ERA in 20 1/3 innings pitched.

The 23-year-old is currently in his second season of professional baseball. In 2007, Gailen was a two-way player for the Anderson Joes of the South Coast League.

Gardner was sensational in the 3-0 win over the Shreveport Sports this past Wednesday. He hurled a complete game shutout allowing only four hits while fanning eight batters. Gardner on the season is 8-3 with an earned run average of 3.77 in 14 starts. The resident of Moore, OK is tied for first in the American Association with two shutouts while is second in complete games with four.

This is Gardner's third season with the Saltdogs. The 27-year-old was a 19th round selection of the Boston Red Sox in 2003. He spent three seasons in the Red Sox organization from 2003-2005. Gardner has also pitched in the San Diego Padres farm system with Fort Wayne of the Midwest League.
