Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

EL PASO, TX - The Lincoln Saltdogs never could catch up to El Paso on Sunday, losing 13-4 at Cohen Stadium. The loss drops the Saltdogs to 3-2 on the current road trip, with two games left to play.

Lincoln starter Ryan Trytten (4-5) was ineffective in his return to the starting rotation, allowing eight runs on ten hits in five-plus innings of work. Trytten, who had spent over two weeks on the disabled list since winning his last start on July 9, gave up two runs in the first, two more in the second, and single runs in the fourth and fifth. Trytten departed after allowing the first two runners to reach base in the sixth, both of which scored.

The Saltdogs, however, had their chances against El Paso starter David Whigham (5-5). Lincoln scored solo runs in each of the first three innings, including a solo home run by Curt Miaso in the second and and RBI single by Miaso in the third. The Dogs left 11 men on base in the game, though, eight of them in scoring position. Lincoln scored its final run in the eighth on an RBI single by Matt Maloney, but the Diablos put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

On the night, Miaso finished 2-for-5 with two runs batted in, while Maloney went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Eduardo Rios and Mario Delgado also had two-hit nights for Lincoln.

The weather played a major factor in the contest, although nothing more than a light rain ever fell at the ballpark. The start time was pushed back from 5:05pm Mountain time to 7:30pm because of the threat of rain, and a lightning delay at 8pm halted the contest for another 45 minutes before the top of the second inning.

The Saltdogs and Diablos play game two of their three-game series Monday night at 8:05pm Central time. Jarrett Gardner is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.

The Saltdogs' current homestand runs through June 22, with games against Sioux City. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
