Pelicans Topple AirHogs, 9-3

Pensacola, FL (07.28.08) - The Pensacola Pelicans used a six-run third inning to propel themselves to a 9-3 victory over the Grand Prairie AirHogs on Monday evening.

Pensacola put its first run on the board in the bottom of the second. With two away and runners on first and second, Francisco Leandro slapped a line drive down the right field line to plate Cesar Aranguren.

The Pelicans batted around in the bottom of the third, as they scored six runs off of seven hits. Jack Joffrion and Matt Pali highlighted the inning coming up with a two RBI single and two RBI double respectively.

Pensacola extended its lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Rafael Alvarez hit a solo shot to right field for the first run. Joffrion reached on a throwing error by David Espinosa at short, and would score on a fielding error by Espinosa on the next play.

Grand Prairie finally got on the board in the top of the seventh, cutting their deficit to 9-3. Derek Nicholson reached on a double and was brought home on an RBI double off the wall in center by J.B. Tucker. The second run came in on a dropped fly ball by Rafael Alvarez, allowing Nicholson to score. Espinosa brought in the third run on a fielder's choice RBI.

Matt Righter (1-1) was the losing pitcher for Grand Prairie. He went just three innings, surrendering seven earned runs on ten hits with three walks and no strikeouts.

Zach Cline (3-7) won the game for Pensacola. He lasted six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walk.

Grand Prairie will continue a three-game series on the road at Pensacola on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM.
