Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

Grand Prairie, TX- After winning the first series of the home stand against the Sioux Falls Canaries, the Grand Prairie AirHogs looked to play spoiler against the Laredo Lemurs. Brett Wallach took to the mound tonight for Grand Prairie against Henry Garcia and the Lemurs.

Wallach would have one of his best games of the season, with a little help from his defense of course. Early in the ball game Ridge Hoopii-Haslem and Robi Estrada would each make fantastic plays robbing the Lemurs of hits and possibly runs. Wallach would get in on the defensive action himself making a great play on bunt attempt with an off-balance throw. He would end up giving up just one run on four hits while walking three and striking out five Lemurs. Wallach recieved a much deserved win tonight, his second of the year.

Wallach's counterpart on the mound was Henry Garcia. Garcia was almost as good as Wallach tonight for Laredo. He would limit the AirHogs to two runs on six hits while striking out eight. The AirHogs scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Jordy Hart in the fifth inning and the other on a single by Zane Chavez after Ronnie Richardson lead off with a double in the sixth inning.

The bullpens for both teams tonight pitched well, neither allowing a run in a combined six innings of work. Ryan Beckman and BJ Hyatt threw for Laredo, Beckman throwing two shutout innings. Former Lemur Sam Martin threw 2/3 of an inning of relief, striking out two batters while giving up a hit and a walk. Colin Allen got the AirHogs out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning to preserve the lead and throw a three up, three down eighth. Logan Norris earned his fourth save of the season, striking out Kevin Taylor to end the game with the tying run standing just 90 feet away at third.

STAT OF THE DAY: AirHogs 1B Victor Diaz recorded his first and second steal of the season tonight, swiping second and third base in the eighth inning after reaching first on a dropped third strike. It was his 99th and 100th steal of his minor league career, to go along with six he has in the big leagues.

Game two of the series is tomorrow afternoon at The Ballpark at Grand Prairie. Blake Oliver will be on the hill for the AirHogs while Matt Loosen throws for the Lemurs. Come on out and catch the game or watch online on our Ustream channel.
