The Diablos destroy Lincoln 13-4

The Diablos exploded for 19 base hits as they demolished the Lincoln Saltdogs 13-4 on Sunday night from Cohen Stadium.

The Salt Dogs struck first in the opening inning. With runners on the corners, pitcher David Whigham was called for a balk which allowed Skip Adams to score for the 1-0 advantage.

El Paso tied the game in the bottom of the first inning. Jorge Alvarez had a run-scoring double and Matt Kent an RBI single which knotted it up at 2-2.

The game was delayed for about 50 minutes due to a lightning delay. The game resumed in the top of the second.

The Salt Dogs quickly tied the game up in the second. Curt Miaso swung at the first pitch of the inning by David Whigham and smashed it over the left field wall for a solo-homer.

El Paso once again pounded out two runs in an inning, this time in the second. Willie James and Bryan Cooksey each had run-scoring doubles, for the 4-2 lead. The Diablos made it a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kory Drew scored on a double play ground out.

El Paso plated another run in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Kent smacked an RBI single through the right side for the 6-3 lead. The Diablos poured on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI doubles like Bryan Cooksey and Robert Mejia.

The Diablos scored five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to blow the game wide open.

El Paso ties their season high with 13 runs in the contest.

David Whigham (5-5) picks up the win. He threw seven innings allowing two earned runs off of 10 hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Ryan Trytten (4-5) is the loser. He threw five innings allowing eight runs off of 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

The Diablos and the Salt Dogs will play the second game of their series on Monday night at 7:05 PM from Cohen Stadium. Adam Blackley will match up against Jarrett Gardner in the contest. The game will be carried live on www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
