Romanczuk Brilliant in 2-0 Shutout of Canaries

ST. PAUL, MN (July 28, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints starting staff is beginning to look very dangerous as they got a huge outing from Mark Romanczuk who hurled eight shutout innings as they got their seventh shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Monday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Romanczuk dominated for the third consecutive start as he baffled the Canaries for 8.0 innings. He gave up just three harmless singles, had just one man reach third base and kept hitters off balance with a high 80's fastball, solid slider and devastating change. He went 8.0 innings allowing three hits while striking out a Saints season high eight.

The Saints were able to get two runs off of Pat Mahomes as they defeated him for the third time this season. Ryan Priddy came up with the first big hit of the night. With one out in the fifth Heath Keel reached on an infield single to third. He stole second and with two outs Priddy knocked him home with a single to left. Priddy finished the night 2-3 with an RBI.

In the sixth the Saints got three consecutive hits with two outs. Tim Brown started it with a single to left. Brent Krause moved him to second with a single to center and Kevin Sullivan drove him home with a single to center. Sullivan extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Saints turned to Mike Bille in the ninth, as Tony Pierce pitched two innings in Sunday's game. Bille gave up just a two out single to Ben Van Iderstine and recorded his first save of the season.

The Saints will look for the three game sweep Tuesday night against the Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Justin Lord (5-8, 3.84) to the mound against Canaries RHP Travis Kane (7-5, 4.22). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
