NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals and Beach Engraving are proud to announce that Admirals captain Ryan Craig has been named the winner of the 2009-10 Norfolk Admirals Player of the Year award, as voted upon by the players and coaching staff.
Craig, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound left wing, leads the Admirals in goals and points. Entering tonight's regular season finale, Craig had 23 goals and 20 assists for 43 points in 72 games. His +5 rating ranks third among team forwards. He was named team captain on January 22.
A veteran of seven professional seasons, Craig has appeared in 243 career American Hockey League contests between the Admirals, Hershey Bears and Springfield Falcons, scoring 69 goals and adding 54 assists. The 27-year-old native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, has appeared in 184 career NHL games - all with the Tampa Bay Lightning - with 32 goals and 31 assists in those games. Craig was selected by the Lightning in the eighth round, 255th overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
The Admirals and Beach Engraving honored Craig's selection as Player of the Year prior to tonight's game against the Hershey Bears. Craig's name was added to the Norfolk Admirals Player of the Year Trophy and Beach Engraving has presented him with an inscribed Tag Heuer watch.
The awarding of the Player of the Year trophy started in the 2004-05 season with the donation of the trophy by Beach Engraving. Prior winners of the award include Rene Bourque (2004-05), Mark Cullen (2005-06), co-winners Corey Crawford and Martin St. Pierre (2006-07), Norm Milley (2007-08) and Brandon Bochenski (2008-09).
