April 10, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have recalled goaltender Tyler Plante. In a related move, the Amerks have also signed goaltender Alex Petizian to an amateur tryout contract.
Plante, 22, earns his first call-up to the big club this season and will join the Panthers tonight for their National Hockey League contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at St. Pete Times Forum.
Plante joins the Panthers after posting a 12-12-1 record with a 2.66 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in 27 American Hockey League games for the Amerks. The third-year pro currently ranks 11th among league netminders with three shutouts. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Plante, who started six of the last seven games for Rochester, is the reigning Goaltender of the Month for March and the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for his performance last weekend, finishing with 99 saves on 103 shots faced. Further, Plante played in his 100th professional game Wednesday night against Grand Rapids. The 6-foot-3, 191-pound netminder was the Florida Panthers' second-round selection (32nd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Petizian (peh-TEEZ-ee-uhn) joins the Amerks on ATO after completing his senior season at St. Lawrence University, where he compiled a 5-5-3 record with a 3.12 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage in 13 games for the Saints. In 2008-09, the Kirkland, Quebec, native
had an outstanding junior campaign for the Saints and his 2.18 goals against average was third in program history. Petizian started 31 games for the Saints and went 17-9-5, establishing a career high with 40 saves. A four-time ECAC Goalie of the Week honoree, Petizian took over the starting goaltending job his freshman season, playing 22 straight games en route to earning Hockey All Rookie Goalie honors and Freshman All American Honors. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound netminder was also a Second Team All League goaltender and was the goalie on the USCHO All Rookie team.
The Amerks close out their regular season tonight as they look to remain perfect against the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial at Oncenter. The 7:30 p.m. contest is the 10th of the season between the longtime regional rivals and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Rochester has an unblemished 9-0-0-0 record this season against the Crunch and has outscored its opponent 40-21 through the previous nine gatherings. The Amerks are 4-0-0-0 on the road against the Crunch, the best against any team on the road, and also own a 91-75-15 lifetime record against Syracuse.
