Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Toronto Marlies 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum but earned a point in the loss which sets a new AHL record for points earned on the road in a season as they earned their 60th road point. The Bulldogs broke 31 franchise records this season and tied six.
Hamilton has also set a new franchise record for fewest goals against in a season as they only surrendered 182 goals which broke the record of 191 that was set by the 2002-2003 team and the 2003-2004 team. The team also broke the club record for fewest power-play opportunities allowed as they were only down a man 355 times breaking the record of 367 set by the 2003-2004 team. P.K. Subban's plus/minus rating of +46 is also a new franchise record for plus/minus rating by a Bulldogs player and defenceman as he surpassed the mark of +34 that was set by Marc-Andre Bergeron in 2002-2003.
The 'Dogs opened the game's scoring at 9:59 of the first frame. Chad Anderson received the puck from Hunter Bishop before skating down the right side boards. Anderson fired a shot on net that beat Toronto starting goaltender James Reimer along the ice on the blocker side. Bishop gave Hamilton a 2-0 lead at 18:01. Anderson gave the puck to Bishop, who skated down the right side of the ice. Bishop faked a pass before snapping a shot past the blocker of Reimer.
The Marlies got on the scoreboard at 3:52 of the final frame. Phil Oreskovic received the puck from Ryan Stokes before blasting a slapshot towards the net. Richard Greenop redirected the shot past Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer and into the back of the net. Alex Foster tied the game 2-2 at 18:32 of the final frame. Phillippe Paradis sent the puck to Foster, who was stationed in front of the net. Foster jammed the puck underneath Mayer and across the goal line.
Neither team could score in the overtime period, sending the game to a shootout. All five Hamilton shooters could not beat Reimer while Paradis scored on Mayer in the fifth and final round to win the game for Toronto. The shootout was the Bulldogs 14th this season, tying the franchise record for most shootouts in one season.
