Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Reading Royals brought a suffocating defense to WesBanco Arena on Saturday night, as they took on the Wheeling Nailers. Reading limited Wheeling to just 19 shots on goal, while netting a pair of tallies, en route to a 2-0 road win.
With less than four minutes remaining in the first period, the Royals opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal. Stanislav Galiev chased down a loose puck in the left corner, before curling out to the bottom of the left circle, where he snuck a wrist shot through Eric Hartzell. Louie Caporusso and Patrick Wey assisted on the marker, as Reading carried a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Neither team was able to light the lamp during the middle frame, but there were two fights, as Dustin Stevenson threw down the mitts with Sean Wiles, and Ryley Miller took on Ethan Cox. Christiaan Minella and Bryant Molle squared off in the first period as well, adding a physical flavor to the game.
The Royals tacked on a big insurance marker in the third period, as Domenic Monardo snapped home a shot from the slot, lifting Reading to a 2-0 win. Galiev and Caporusso assisted on the goal, giving each player a two-point night.
Brandon Anderson was perfect on 19 shots for the Royals, as he won his second straight start against Wheeling. Eric Hartzell denied 31 of the 33 shots he faced for the Nailers, but was saddled with the loss.
The Nailers and Royals will meet up again on Sunday afternoon at 5:05 from Reading's Santander Arena, before Wheeling returns home on Thursday for a 7:00 clash with the Elmira Jackals.
