Calgary Assigns Goaltender Olivier Roy to the Aces

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Olivier Roy (WAH, OH-liv-ee-yay) has been assigned to the Aces by Calgary.

Roy, 22, will join the Aces in Boise for the conclusion of a three game series against the Idaho Steelheads tonight at 5:10 pm (103.7FM/750 AM KFQD).

The 6-foot, 180 pound goaltender was acquired by the Flames on Nov. 8, 2013 along with defenseman Ladislav Smid from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Laurent Brossoit and center Roman Horak. Roy carries two seasons of ECHL experience including a run to the Kelly Cup Finals last season with the Stockton Thunder, when he went 12-9 in the postseason with a .911 save percentage and 2.81 goals-against-average.

Roy also went 7-2-0 in regular season play with Stockton, boasting a .961 save percentage, 1.21 goals-against-average and one shutout. He also earned Stockton's "Rookie of the Year" award in 2011-12 with a 2.49 goals-against-average, .925 save percentage and 16-18-1 record in 40 games while breaking the club record with four shutouts and twice earning the ECHL Goaltender of the Week award.

The native of Causapscal, Quebec is 11-11-1 with a .904 save percentage in 29 career American Hockey League games with Oklahoma City and Springfield.

Roy was selected by Edmonton in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and entered the draft as the second highest North American goaltender by the Central Scouting Bureau. He represented Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships and was named to the Canadian Hockey League All-Rookie Team in 2007-08 with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Roy earned a record of 123-57-8 along with a 2.77 goals-against-average and 14 shutouts in 200 career games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
