Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Jimmy Martin to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. In another transaction undertaken today, forward John Scrymgeour has been loaned to the Portland Pirates of the AHL. In other transactions previously completed, the Royals (i) released forward Ian O'Connor from his ECHL contract; (ii) released defenseman Mike Little from his Amateur Tryout Agreement; and (iii) signed Little to an ECHL contract.

Martin (5'9) (189), who hails from St. Louis, Missouri, just completed his senior season at Yale University, where he led defensemen on the team in scoring with twenty-three points (7g-16a) in thirty-six games. Martin, who served as the Elis' team captain and was selected to the All-Ivy League team this past season, was a member of three separate Yale University teams that made it to the NCAA tournament. This season, Yale won the ECAC Hockey Championship Title for the third straight year and was the Number One Seed in the NCAA tournament but was ousted in the East Regionals by the University of Minnesota-Duluth. In 138 total college games with Yale, Martin registered fifty-eight points (11g-47a) and 126 penalty minutes. This marks Scrymgeour's first career call-up to the AHL. In fifty-five games with Reading this season, Scrymgeour has registered twenty-two points (10g-12a) and forty-eight penalty minutes. O'Connor played six games with the Royals and scored his first pro goal in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators. O'Connor also picked up his first fighting major as a pro while with the Royals.

The Royals return home tonight (Wednesday, March 30 @ 7:05 pm) when the team will face the Wheeling Nailers at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. That game is a Berk's Packing Dollar Night with $1.00 hotdogs, nachos, popcorn and soda. It is also a Wet Wednesday with $2.00 select drafts. You can also catch all of the Royals away games this season on Royals TV exclusively on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
