Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have released center Marco Rosa from his Professional Tryout Agreement. The P-Bruins now have 22 players on their roster, including 12 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.
Rosa, 24, is in his third professional season and second splitting time between the AHL and ECHL. Before signing with Providence on December 22, the forward had 23 points (10g, 13a) in 18 games with the Texas Wildcatters, in addition to another goal and assist in five contests with the AHL's Houston Aeros. With the P-Bruins, he tallied two assists in 12 games, along with four penalty minutes and a minus-five rating.
Last year, Rosa suited up for the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) and Long Beach Ice Dogs (ECHL). As a rookie with the Ice Dogs during the 2004-05 campaign, the native of Scarborough, Ontario, finished as a runner-up for the league's Rookie of the Year award after a 65-point (34g, 31a) output in the full 72-game schedule. He was also named a National Conference All-Star that same season. Prior to turning pro, Rosa, drafted by the Dallas Stars 255th overall (eighth round) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, played four seasons in nearby Andover, Massachusetts for the Merrimack College Warriors.
Providence takes a four-game winning streak into Connecticut to battle the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 p.m. The P-Bruins then play three this weekend, beginning at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, January 19 against the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. for Dunkin' Donuts Travel Mug Night. Providence travels north Saturday for a match-up with the rival Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. before returning to The Dunk to complete a home-and-home series with Portland on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Information on tickets and Providence Bruins season ticket packages for the 2006-07 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto www.providencebruins.com.
