Iowa calls on left winger

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Iowa Stars have recalled Tuomas Mikkonen from their Boise, ID based ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.

Mikkonen has played 30 games with the Steelheads this season scoring seven goals and adding six assists for 13 points: 30(7/6/13). Listed at 6-2 and 215-pounds, the Jyvaskyla, Finland native was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the eighth round, #243 overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He made his North American professional debut on November 3rd, 2006 when the Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies in a shootout.

This is the first time Mikkonen has been recalled this season. For the past five seasons, the left winger played in his hometown of Jyvaskyla for JyP HT Jyvaskyla in the Finnish Elite League. In 190 games with JyP HT Jyvaskyla, Mikkonen had 21 goals and 17 assists for 38 points while compiling 103 PIM's: 190(21/17/38). During the 2002-2003 season, he was a member of the bronze medal winning Finnish Jr. National Team during the World Junior Championships that took place in Nova Scotia.
