Falcons Host Monarchs Monday Afternoon

The Springfield Falcons and Manchester Monarchs will meet for the fifth time this season and third meeting at the MassMutual Center Monday afternoon starting at 4:05 PM. The Falcons have posted a record of 1-3-0-0 against the Monarchs this year, including 0-2 on home ice. These two teams closed out the 2006 calendar year going head-to-head on New Year's Eve with Manchester blanking the Birds on that night 3-0. The Falcons lone win against the Monarchs this season occurred back on December 1 when captain Norm Milley scored the game-winner in overtime. These two teams will meet one more time before January concludes when the Falcons head to Manchester next Wednesday, January 24. Milley leads the Falcons in scoring against the Monarchs this season with two goals and three assists for five points in four games. Defenseman Andy Delmore is second on the team in points against Manchester this year with four. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin has played in three contests against the Monarchs this season and has a record of 1-1 with a 1.86 goals against average and .935 save percentage. Defenseman Peter Harrold has led Manchester in scoring against Springfield this season with five assists in three games. Matt Moulson, Ryan Murphy and Tim Jackman all lead the Monarchs in goals against the Falcons with two each.

The Falcons will be looking to snap their four-game losing streak this afternoon after dropping their most recent game by the score of 4-2 Saturday night against the Worcester Sharks. Defenseman Sylvain Dufresne scored his second goal of the year, while Daniel Corso added a third period marker supplying the scoring for Springfield. Springfield enters today's action with a record of 20-20-0-1 through 41 games and the Falcons are in a tie with the Lowell Devils and Worcester Sharks with 41 points in the Atlantic Division. The Falcons have started the 2007 calendar year with a mark of 1-5-0-0 and will conclude a three-game homestand today against Manchester. Following today's contest, Springfield will not play again until Friday night when they head to Providence for the second time this season.

The Monarchs head into Springfield at the top of the Atlantic Division with a record of 22-12-6-1 good for 51 points and four points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack. Manchester lost to the Pack on Sunday by the score of 4-1, only their second regulation loss in their last 10 games. The Monarchs have gone 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 contests and continue to have the least amount of regulation losses in the Atlantic Division with 12.

FALCONS TEAM NOTES: Falcons forward David Spina extended his scoring streak to five straight games on Saturday night when he added one assist against the Worcester Sharks. Spina was the game's second star on Friday night when he scored his fourth goal of the year and added one assist against Providence. Spina has two goals and five assists for seven points in his last five contests. Spina is three games shy of 100 for his AHL career. Falcons center Daniel Corso was the game's second star on Saturday night when he added one goal and one assist. Corso has registered at least a point in five of his last six games registering four goals and three assists for seven points in that span.

Falcons defenseman Andy Delmore played in his 300th career AHL game on Saturday night against the Worcester Sharks. Delmore continues to lead all Springfield defensemen in scoring with 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 40 games played. In 300 career AHL games, Delmore has 54 goals and 130 assists for 184 points.

THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK: Manchester goaltender Jason LaBarbera has played in three of the four games against the Birds this season posting a record of 2-1-0 with a 1.65 goals against average and .940 save percentage. LaBarbera has played in 35 of Manchester's 41 games this season posting a mark of 19-14-1 with four shutouts, a 2.31 goals against average and .930 save percentage.

LaBarbera is currently sixth in the league in goals against average and second in save percentage, shutouts and wins. LaBarbera was named to the Canadian AHL All-Star Team last week and will participate in the All-Star Weekend on January 28-29 in Toronto.
