Rochester Americans hit the road for four games

(Rochester, NY)... After completing a weekend sweep of the Syracuse Crunch, the North Division leading Rochester Americans will now head to the nation's Midwest where they will play four games in five nights against West Division teams. The trip caps off a stretch of the Amerks' schedule in which they play 10 of 11 games on the road. Seven games into the travel-heavy stint, the Amerks are 4-3.

On Tuesday, January 16th, the Amerks will take on the Iowa Stars at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, in the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. In their last meeting on November 24th, Amerks goalie Adam Dennis made 33 saves to lead Rochester to a 5-2 win over Iowa at The Blue Cross Arena. The Amerks are 3-0 all-time against the Stars. The 8:05 p.m. EST contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.

The Amerks will travel to Peoria, Illinois, on Wednesday, January 17th to take on the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena. In their last meeting, on October 20th, the Amerks escaped with a 3-1 win thanks to a two-goal performance by Amerk center Drew Larman. The 8:00 p.m. EST game will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.

On Friday, January 19th, Rochester will face the Milwaukee Admirals at The Bradley Center. The Admirals earned a 4-3 overtime win the last time the two teams met on November 22nd. Admiral defenseman Sheldon Brookbank scored the game-winner with 40 seconds remaining in the extra frame to grab the win for Milwaukee. The game is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.

The following night, the Amerks will complete their five-game road stint with an 8:00 p.m. EST contest against the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at Omaha Civic Auditorium. The Amerks are 1-1 all-time against the Knights. In their last meeting on March 7, 2006, the Amerks pulled off a 4-3 overtime shootout win in Omaha. The game Saturday night showdown will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.

Rochester will return to The Blue Cross Arena on January 24th, when they take on Grand Rapids Griffins in the fifth of eight scheduled meetings this season. That night's special promotion is the clevermethod Business Person's Special. Fans can turn in their business card at The Blue Cross Arena box office and purchase a regular $19.00 ticket for $10.00. There is a maximum of four discounted tickets per business card.

The Amerks are coming off a weekend home-and-home series sweep of the Syracuse Crunch. On January 12th, the Amerks required an overtime shootout to knock off the Crunch 3-2 at The Blue Cross Arena. Clarke MacArthur and Mark Mancari scored the Amerks' pair of goals in regulation, while Craig Anderson stopped 33 shots in regulation and all four of the Crunch shooters in the shootout to pick up his 12th win of the season.

The following night, Rochester again defeated the Crunch, 5-2, at War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse to complete the home-and-home series sweep. Amerk forward Drew Stafford netted two markers and Anderson made 37 saves to lift the Amerks to their third straight victory.

With the win, Amerk Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth tied Joe Crozier with 260 regular season wins behind the Amerks bench. With his next win, Cunneyworth will stand alone with the second most wins in Amerks coaching history. Now, in his seventh season as the Amerks head coach, Cunneyworth has accumulated a regular season record of 261-201-57 and a .558 winning percentage. John Van Boxmeer leads all Amerks coaches with 333 wins and 690 games coached.

PLAYER MOVES

Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Florida Panthers have recalled forwards Anthony Stewart and Drew Larman and have reassigned forwards David Brine and Dustin Johner from Florida (ECHL) to Rochester.

Last season, Johner played 16 games with the Amerks and registered one goal and one assist. This year, he has registered 14 goals and 16 assists in 30 games with the Florida Everblades (ECHL).

Brine joins the Amerks just one season after playing nine postseason games with the Manitoba Moose in which he registered one assist. The 6'1" center has registered five goals and 14 assists in 34 games with the Everblades this season.

On January 13th, the Buffalo Sabres recalled forward Daniel Paille. Paille picked up his third assist of the season in the Sabres' 3-2 overtime shootout loss to Boston this afternoon. Paille has one goal and three assists in 15 games with the Sabres this year. In 28 games with the Amerks, he has six goals and 14 assists.

AMERKS QUICK NUMBERS

- Rochester faces four West Division teams this week... They are 4-0-1 against West Division teams this season.

- With 44 points (16+28), forward Clarke MacArthur is tied for 12th among AHL leaders... He has registered points in each of his last nine home games.

- Center Janis Sprukts is second among league rookies with 26 assists... His 35 points (9+26) are good enough for sixth among AHL rookies.

- Brandon Smith is fifth among AHL defensemen with 25 points (6+19) and a plus-15 rating.

- The Amerks' power play is currently at 17.9%, good enough for 11th in the AHL... Their penalty killing is 23rd best at 78.4 %.

- The Amerks are outscoring their opponents 52-30 in the third period and 143-114 overall.

- Scoring 3.76 goals per game, the Amerks have the fifth most productive offense in the AHL.
