The Atlanta Thrashers have reassigned defenseman MARK POPOVIC to the Chicago Wolves. In addition, the Wolves have released defenseman JON AWE.

POPOVIC was held scoreless in 8:28 of ice time in Atlanta's 4-3 shootout victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. The 24-year-old blueliner has registered one assist, his first career National Hockey League point, in three outings with the Thrashers this season.

The Stoney Creek, Ontario, native has tallied 11 helpers, 15 points and 33 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Wolves this season. Last year, he was tied for eighth among AHL defensemen with a career-high 12 goals in 73 games with Chicago after entering the season with eight markers in 221 career AHL tilts.

AWE recorded five shots in Chicago's 6-3 loss against the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Allstate Arena on Saturday during his Wolves debut. The Memphis, Tenn., native leads the ECHL with 16 power-play goals and ranks ninth overall with 40 points in 33 contests with the Gwinnett Gladiators this season. He also paces ECHL blueliners with 18 goals and ranks third with 22 assists.
