Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (56-47) cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies (52-51) on Wednesday night thanks to six late-inning runs.
The club won their season-high fifth straight game to extend their Pacific Northern division lead to four games - the largest margin it has been all year. Third baseman Cristhian Adames reached base four times and was retired for the first time in the ballgame during the ninth inning. He launched his fourth home run of the season while also adding a double, a single, and a walk to raise his batting average to .316.
Right-hander Yoanys Quiala tossed five one-hit innings and a trio of left-handers came out of the bullpen to pitch four scoreless frames as the Sacramento pitching staff combined to allow a season-low two hits.
Right-hander Dereck Rodriguez (2-0, 5.40) is set to make the start Thursday night as the River Cats go for their second series sweep of this road trip. The Grizzlies will counter with fellow righty Wil Crowe (0-0, 3.38). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
- A day after hitting the 100th home run of his minor-league career, catcher Francisco Peña cleared the fence again and this time, it helped extend his team-high hitting streak to 11 games. Last season, shortstop Kelby Tomlinson's 18-gamer led the club.
- The River Cats pitching staff's two-hit performance on Wednesday night marks their lowest of the season. Their previous best (3) came on May 31 in a 1-0 blanking of the Las Vegas Aviators.
- With 37 games left in the 2019 season, the River Cats have already won more games (56) than they did all of last year (55), in which they set a franchise record for fewest wins and most losses in a season.
