Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Omaha Storm Chasers (48-56) edged the Round Rock Express (59-44) by a final score of 2-1 in Thursday night's series finale at Dell Diamond. LF Derek Fisher's 12th home run of the season proved to be the only offense for the Express in the defeat.
Omaha RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (3-7, 7.17) earned the win after 5.0 shutout innings of relief. The righty allowed just one hit and four walks while striking out a pair in the winning performance. On the losing side, Round Rock starter RHP Carson LaRue (0-3, 5.71) was dealt a tough-luck loss after holding Omaha to just two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings.
The visitors opened the scoring in the third inning as DH Samir Duenez collected a double prior to an RBI single off the bat of SS Erick Mejia. An inning later, the Storm Chasers doubled their lead to 2-0 thanks to heads up baserunning by RF Jorge Bonifacio. After collecting a single to lead off the frame, the outfielder raced to second on a LaRue wild pitch. He then advanced to third on a flyout before trotting home on a Kelvin Gutierrez single.
Scoreless through their first seven innings, the Round Rock offense sparked to life in the eighth. LF Derek Fisher blasted a one-out home run onto the top of the centerfield groundskeeping shed to put the E-Train on the board. 1B Taylor Jones and CF Drew Ferguson then tallied back-to-back singles to put the game-tying run in scoring position, but Omaha reliever RHP Andres Machado worked out of the jam to preserve the lead, and ultimately the win, for his team.
Round Rock now travels to Des Moines for a showdown with the Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs affiliate). Express LHP Ryan Hartman (5-5, 5.18) is scheduled to start the series opener opposite Cubs RHP Colin Rea (11-2, 3.19). First pitch at Principal Park is set for 7:08 p.m.
