Reign Fall to Wranglers 2-1 in Overtime

Ontario Reign News Release

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Ontario Reign (19-12-2-2), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, fell in overtime, 2-1, to the Las Vegas Wranglers (22-11-1-3) before 4,513 at Orleans Arena Friday.

Both teams came out hitting and ground out the first period with only 11 shots between the clubs. The Reign had seven of those shots, but were held without a first-period goal for the first time in five games.

Tristan King gave Ontario a 1-0 lead at 5:41 of the second period. King skated out of the right corner and threw a backhander toward the net which deflected off of defenseman's stick and through the five hole of goaltender Joe Fallon. Vincent LoVerde and Geoff Irwin assisted on the goal.

After going 184 minutes without allowing a goal, the Reign streak ended. Adam Miller finished off a 2-on-1 with Michael Busto and the game went to overtime.

Just 20 seconds into the extra frame, Referee Joe Sullivan called C.J. Stretch for roughing, giving Las Vegas a 4-on-3 power play; an opportunity they did not waste. Las Vegas won the ensuing faceoff in Ontario's end and Barry Goers scored his third goal of the season to give the Wranglers a 2-1 win.

Chris Carrozzi (5-5-3) turned aside 17 of the 19 shots he faced, while Joe Fallon (17-6-4) got the win with 27 saves on 28 shots. The Reign earned a point and extended their unbeaten streak to eight games.

The Reign will play the Bakersfield Condors at Citizens Business Bank Arena for the last time this season. Fans can watch the game from the upper level for only $6 per seat (regularly priced from $10 to $19).
