Muse Stellar in Return as Blades Beat Express 4-2

ESTERO, FL -- John Muse's stellar performance in goal helped carry the Everblades to a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Express in front of a crowd of 5,740 at Germain Arena Friday nigh. .

The Chicago Express came into the first period with a strong offensive showing, only to be countered by outstanding play from Florida's goalie John Muse who was assigned earlier in the day by the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. The Express outshot the Everblades 15-7 in the first period but came up scoreless.

Florida's offense was jumpstarted at the 13-minute mark when Kory Falite scored on a wraparound shot from left side of the goal, putting the Blades up 1-0.

The second period saw a lot of action as the Everblades offense picked up where they left off in the first. The first goal of the period came when Rylan Galiardi's pass split two defenders to an open Ryan Donald who put it in the net past Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino from the right side circle putting the Blades up 2-0.

The Express scored their first goal of the night as John Muse's flawless game came to an end when Drew Akin's backhand shot fluttered over his glove and into the back of the net, bringing the Express within one goal.

Florida took advantage of the power play at the 14-minute mark when David Rutherford found a wide open Matt Marquardt, whose wrist shot would again put the Blades up by two. Rutherford would finish with two assists on the night.

Chicago refused to give in and put up their second goal of the period when Chad Painchaud's rebounded shot beat Muse to bring the score to 3-2.

The final period of play saw great defense from both teams. The Blades assured the victory in the final minute of play when Brayden Irwin's shot from center ice found the open net which secured the 4-2 victory.

Muse earns the win stopping 28 of 30 shots faced, while Mannino takes the loss in his debut allowing three goals on 29 shots.

The two temas will meet again Saturday at Germain Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m. The McDonald's tailgate party starts at 5:00 p.m with live music from MT40 and bounces houses for the kids.
