Express fall 4-2 to Everblades
January 13, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Estero, FL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, fell 4-2 to the Everblades at the Germain Arena on Friday night.
Chicago matched their shot totals from the entire game on Wednesday, firing 15 shots in the first period. It would be Florida who would strike first however, when LW Kory Falite wrapped around the net and slid a shot through the legs of G Peter Mannino at 13:17. The 1-0 score stood for Florida at the end of the frame.
The ice opened up in the third period, as four goals were scored between the two clubs. The scoring started two minutes into the period, as D Ryan Donald collected a pass from F Rylan Galiardi, and tapped it past G Peter Mannio to put Florida up 2-0. Chicago cut into the lead, as F Drew Akins made his presence in the lineup known, deflecting home a shot past G John Muse to put the Express on the board at 6:21 of the frame. Florida regained their two goal advantage with a power play strike, as LW Matt Marquardt blasted a shot from the right wing over the glove of Mannino at 13:37. The Express continued to battle throughout the period, and it paid off when LW Chad Painchaud swatted home a rebound off a shot from D Evan Stephens with just 1:14 left in the frame. Chicago trailed Florida 3-2 heading into the second intermission.
The intensity picked up in the third period, along with the penalties, but neither side was able to gain an advantage. Florida iced the game when the Express pulled the goaltender for an extra attacker, and F Brayden Irwin placed a rink-length shot into the empty net to secure the final 4-2 score, winning their second straight against Chicago.
