TRENTON - The South Carolina Stingrays (19-16-1-1-40) jumped on the Trenton Titans Friday night, notching a 4-1 victory on the strength of three first-period goals before 4,062 fans at the Sun National Bank Center.

With the loss, the Titans dropped to 12-16-3-3-30.

First-period goals by Chris Doyle, Zach Takir and David de Kastrozza gave the Stingrays, one of the top defensive clubs in the ECHL, a decisive 3-0 advantage after the opening 20 minutes.

Mitch Versteeg scored the only goal for the Titans, assisted by Adam Presizniak and Randy Rowe, with 4:05 remaining in the second period, but the Stingrays lead was too much to overcome.

"Again, we have to play 60 minutes,'' said Titans head coach Vince Williams.

Doyle notched his second goal, an empty-net, power-play score, with three seconds remaining to make it 4-1.

The Titans host the Reading Royals at 7 Saturday evening.
