
Aces Sign Defenseman Matt Shasby

The Alaska Aces have signed veteran defenseman Matt Shasby, Aces Head Coach Rob Murray announced on Friday, just before faceoff of the Aces game against the Stockton Thunder. Shasby will be in the lineup for the Aces, marking his first game since Game 7 of the 2009 Kelly Cup Finals. The Aces and Thunder continue their weekend series on Friday and Saturday. Shasby, 31, was a four-year mainstay for the Aces, appearing in 257 games for Alaska. He has played in 374 games in his professional career, for Columbus and Long Beach of the ECHL, and Hamilton of the AHL. In his career, Shasby totaled 231 points (45g, 186a). 181 points (33g, 148a) came during his time with the Aces. The Eagle River, AK native was named to the All-ECHL second team in 2006-07 and 2008-09. In 2007 he led the league in +/- with a +43 rating. The 6'2", 200 lbs. defenseman was a 1999 fifth round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL Draft. Prior to turning pro, he played four years of collegiate hockey at University of Alaska - Anchorage.
